TAC-2 RP Driver

TAC-2 RP Driver icon

A modern Apple silicon driver for the Zoom TAC-2 and TAC-2R Thunderbolt audio interfaces. Zoom discontinued the TAC-2 family; its last driver is an Intel-only kernel extension that stops at macOS 13. TAC-2 RP Driver is a native DriverKit driver — no kernel extension, no Rosetta — written from scratch so these excellent, very low-latency interfaces keep working on current Macs.

  • 2-in / 2-out CoreAudio device at 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz, tuned for the lowest possible round-trip latency — for live networked performance (SonoBus, Jamulus) and DAW tracking.
  • Both MIDI ports by their original names: the control channel used by Zoom’s TAC-2 MixEfx app (gain, +48V, Hi-Z, monitor mix, hardware FX, meters), and the physical 5-pin MIDI IN / OUT jacks.
  • An installer / status app: install or update the driver, see the installed and bundled versions, detect the connected interface and its firmware, and get taken to the right System Settings pane for approval.

Status: working and in daily use — audio at all sample rates, MIDI control plane, physical MIDI ports, reboot-free updates. A signed public release is pending Apple’s DriverKit entitlement approval.

Studio

RandomPlanet’s recording studio: a Mac Studio–based Logic Pro room with PreSonus Quantum Thunderbolt interfaces, a dedicated drum room, house word clock, and remote-session capability over SonoBus and Jamulus. Tracking, mixing and remote collaboration.
